Police have arrested the woman who raised the false alarm that triggered the lynching of Major Maxwell Mahama – Akosua Takyiwaa was placed before court alongside seven others on Friday – They were remanded into prison custody to reappear before court at a later date.

Takyiwaa, according to the police account of events, called William Baah, the assemblyman in the area and reported that the Major Mahama, who was not wearing military uniform at the time, was a robber. Police say the assembly man swiftly organised the town to lynch the soldier, without even trying to verify if the information was accurate. Takyiwaa was put before court alongside seven others on Friday and was later remanded into prison custody.
