Asamoah Gyan, a former Ghana captain has urged the Black Stars players to have a positive mindset and energy ahead of the game against Nigeria.

The Black Stars will play their rivals, the Super Eagles for a place in the 2022 World Cup which is to be hosted by Qatar later this year.

In the first leg of the playoffs, Ghana will host Nigeria at the Baba Yara Stadium before the return leg in Abuja at the Abiola National Stadium.

Gyan, 36, played against the Super Eagles in the past where he most notably scored the only goal to beat the Nigerians in the 2010 AFCON.

“I played 3 or 4 times against Nigeria. We drew once in a friendly and we won three times. Nigeria never beat us whilst I played for Ghana,” he told 3Sports on The Final Push show.

“Going into this game, it’s all about the mindset. There are matches that you don’t need a coach. You just go into the game with positive energy and you will win,” he added.

Gyan further went on to insist that he has not retired from football yet and would have loved to play for his country in this game.

“I would have loved to be in the game like this but right now I’m not playing so I just have to wish the Black Stars very good luck for this game. I have not retired yet. If I have to play actively, I just have to train and shed weight in 3 months and then I can play. Age-wise I’m very okay,” he concluded.
