Former Kumasi Asante Kotoko coach and Black Stars captain, Charles Kwablah Akunnor will take over as interim coach of the Black Stars, according to GhanaSoccer.net
According to the report, he is expected to take temporary charge of the team following the dismissal of Kwesi Appiah and his technical team.
In November, he named as a member of Kwesi Appiah’s backroom staff for the two 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against South Africa and Sao Tome and Principe.
Akonnor will start the process of preparing the team for the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers which begin in March.
Kwesi Appiah’s contract with the Black Stars expired in December and the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) decided not to extend it.
Appiah on his second stint with the Black Stars took over from Israeli Avram Grant in 2017. He was in charge of the team as Ghana witness their worst Africa Cup of Nation (AFCON) campaign since 2006 in Egypt- exited in the round of 16.
He wasn’t the only coach affected by the overhaul by the new GFA in their quest to revamp the technical teams of the national teams. The decision affects both male and female national teams
