Brain Aneurysm on the rise in Ghana – Radiologist reveals

An Interventional Radiologist, Benjamin Sarkodie has expressed his worry about the rate of Brain Aneurysm in the country.

A brain aneurysm is a bulge or ballooning in a blood vessel in the brain. It can leak or rupture, causing bleeding into the brain.

A ruptured aneurysm quickly becomes life-threatening and requires immediate medical treatment. However, most of them don’t rupture but create health problems or cause symptoms and are often detected during an MRI or CT scans.

According to him, about six percent of Ghanaians have the condition, however, few people seek medical care.

In an interview with Joy News, Mr Sakodie noted that the condition could easily be detected and treated should patients seek medical care immediately and not consider it to be Malaria.

“There is a condition called brain aneurysm, it is a condition that can lead to death.

“So for people who have sudden headaches, people who collapse, they come with vomiting, they come with neck pain and many more. It needs to be investigated,” he emphasised.
