E-Levy: We cannot continue to pay people who engage in reckless expenditure – Asiedu Nketia

NDC General Secretary Johnson Asiedu Nketia

The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia is asking Ghanaians to reject the Electronic Transaction Levy (E-Levy) saying people who engage in reckless expenditure cannot be continually paid.

Speaking in an engagement on the Breakfast show of GTV on Wednesday, March 16, 2022, the experienced scribe of the biggest opposition party stressed that the economic woes of Ghana cannot be solved by the e-levy.

“I am so much against E-Levy! We cannot continue to pay money to people who engage in reckless expenditure.

“Where we are now, half of the money we collect goes into the payment of interest on loans and the other half goes into salaries. There is nothing left for other services.

“E-Levy cannot solve the economic problems of this country,” Johnson Asiedu Nketia shared.

He said Ghana is in crisis and the ruling government must own up and accept the reality.

According to the NDC General Secretary, the government must as a matter of urgency focus on regaining the confidence of the Ghanaian people as well as entities that can potentially make investments to boost the economy.

“We are in crisis and the government must accept that. Clearly, this government is preaching one thing and practicing another.

“What we have to do is to regain the confidence of the people and the investor economy,” Asiedu Nketia noted.
