Several shops at the Timber market at Tema in the Greater Accra Region have been destroyed by fire.
According to information gathered, the fire started around midday and managed to spread to several other structures at the Timber market.
After razing through several shops, the fire destroyed properties said to be worth thousands of Ghana cedis.
Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service are reported to have struggled before dousing the fire and bringing the situation under control.
Today’s incident means that two different markets have suffered fire outbreaks.
A fire outbreak at the makeshift Takoradi market early this week saw properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis being destroyed.
The fire outbreak which occurred in the early hours of Monday, April 4, 2022, left market women traumatised.
According to the Head of Public Affairs at the Ghana National Fire Service, Mr. Ebo Bonney, the fire at the Takoradi makeshift market is the biggest they have had to deal with in so many years.”
“This is the biggest fire outbreak we have had in a very long time. We mobilized fire tankers to be able to douse the fire. In all, we had eight fire tenders to control the fire. So far eighty-seven shops have been burnt,” Mr. Ebo Bonney told 3FM in an interview.
