The Gomoa Central District Assembly has provided financial support to Persons With Disability in the District.
Refrigerators, cassava, tomatoes and other processing machines were given to 43 beneficiaries. Others include wheelchairs, fufu pounding machines for commercial purposes.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the Gomoa Central District Chief Executive, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo cautioned them against the sale of the items given to improve their financial status.
He noted that over the past five and half years, under His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP Government, Persons With Disability in the district have benefited immensely from the Disability Fund.
“What we have been doing once in a while is to support PWDs with income generating tools and machines to improve their livelihood.
“These people need support from the society and government as a whole to be self-sufficient rather than being dependant on their families, friends and philanthropist to feed themselves.
“In addition to this presentation, the Assembly has also provided a business commercial center equipped with corn mill, fufu pounding machines well as tomatoes and cassava processors.
This is to generate income for the PWDs. Many a time, they had to wait for Disability Fund to support their financial needs. The commercial center is also going to create job opportunities for PWDs in the District,” he stated.
Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Naana Eyiah was grateful to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana for his foresight in providing social intervention policies aimed at improving the quality lives of the people.
The MP who is also the Deputy Minister for Interior disclosed that government was improving every sector of the economy.
She mentioned education, health, agriculture, and road network among others as some of such areas that have seen tremendous improvement.
“Am overwhelmed by the number of developmental projects and social interventions that have been put in place in Gomoa Central Constituency. The Chiefs and people of Gomoa Central will continue to be grateful to NPP Government.
“His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo led NPP Government has shown real difference in terms of good governance.
“We in Gomoa Central should reciprocate by rallying behind the NPP to win massively come December 2024 General Elections for more of such projects and social interventions.
“Though times are hard, we should not sell our coloured Television for Black and White TV. The government is doing everything possible to alleviate economic related hardships,” Hon. Naana Eyiah noted.
Giving the background of the Gomoa Central District Business Complex Center, a former Director of Social Welfare, Mr. Wisdom Yaw Badjessah noted that the complex was the brainchild of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to support PWDs in Gomoa Central.
“The Government is very much interested in the welfare of Persons With Disability, that is why funds are released every quarter to cater for their needs.
“The idea to put up this building began in 2018 when the Assembly through the Disability Fund purchased a corn mill for the Gomoa Central District branch of the Ghana Federation of the Disabled.
“This in 2019 construction of the center started under the leadership of Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo. The reasoning behind was to ensure that PWDs do not solely depend on the Disability Fund.
“I must say this is a big intervention that will go a long way to enhance the living standard of Persons With Disability because it is going to create income for the Federation and will alleviate their plight.
“The Department of Social Welfare in Gomoa Central will continue to be grateful to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, President of Ghana, Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, Hon. Naana Eyiah and the DCE, Hon. Benjamin Kojo Otoo for this God-sent edifice,” he emphasised.
