The Member of Parliament for Sekondi Constituency in the Western Region, Andrew Egyapa Mercer has said the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is threatened by any move to have the controversial E-levy passed.

He stated on ‘Good Morning Ghana’ show on Metro TV today that, the Minority opposition to the E-levy is propaganda.

According to him, the NDC is scared their 2024 chances would be dashed should the E-levy be passed.

Andrew Egyapa Mercer noted that the rigidity of Ghana’s tax space is such that, should there be an increase in revenue, government would have the ability to do more for the country.

He added that the NDC, fearing that, are going about spewing lies just to create public disaffection towards the E-levy.

“In all honesty, if they (NDC) would admit to themselves they know that it is politics they are doing because the rigidity of our tax budget space is such that any incremental revenue that then gives government fiscal space will allow government to do more for the people of Ghana and they are scared that, if that eventuality happens their chances of 2024 are diminished,” he said on the show.

He emphasised that government was sensitive to the plights of Ghanaians and would roll out plans to alleviate the current hardships.
